The Hobby: Job Hunting & Interview - Story 1

  • Just today, i visited a recruitment firm which i applied in JobsDB. As usual, job exams and interview. And as usual again, its located in Makati. (Makati is a business hub anyway! and its FAB!) I applied for a Management Trainee for i dunno what company. LOL. seriously, i really dont know what company, but then they are looking for a HRM graduate which makes me think that the job is HRM related. But yes, I go through the job description page. I didnt find the company name and all I know is that it is "food retail" and "wines related". I realized I became more careless in pushing the apply button in job sites. That means, I really need a work, as in immediately. HAHAHA. but not because of money.. (honestly!) i just feel like i need something to do, something valuable aside from everyday bonding with my laptop.

Ok, onto my story... It was a surprise call from them since the representative call me at 7PM, which i didnt expect. (usually offices close at 5PM or earlier???) Well, its like a preinterview on the phone and at the end of the conversation, she asked me if i can visit there office tomorrow (which is today) at a certain time, since i'm free I said yes. OK! 2ND APPOINTMENT EVER! (my first one is from market research company, for an analyst job! THATS WHAT YOU CALLED GUTS! HAHAHA!)

When I woke up, its raining, I found out that there is a typhoon coming. (UNLUCKY DAY!) But then, I need to attend the interview. What's really bugging me is i'm wearing a heel shoes and its raining with air some more! (BWISIT NAMAN!) And another thing, I dont know where is that firm's location. HAHAHA. Of course, I asked my uncle Google via Google Maps. I used to say that Google Maps is kinda useless in this country, yeah it can detect the places but it can never give you any direction on how to go there. (since we really dont have a centralized transportation. Google Maps was my travel buddy in Singapore.) So I asked my uncle Google on how to get there via Search Engine. Luckily, I found the answer to my question. So all I have to do is to tell to Manong Drayber (Jeepney Driver) to get me off at Bagtikan St. (and my pronunciation of that street really sucks, it should be bag-tikan instead of bagtikan which has no stress. HAHAHA. embarrassing!) 15 mins before the scheduled time, I arrived at the exact place. Thanks to Manong Drayber, although i'm partially wet because of the rain. (TSK!) So, i thought I am going to see a lot of bagets (youngsters) in the venue, but I was wrong. HAHAHA.

We are just two for that day. And guess what, we attended the same school and the same college. She told me she was shocked when she saw my ID (school ID, my alumni ID is not yet ready). She approached me and asked if what Lyceum campus did I attended to, and yeah, she also attended the main campus which is Manila Campus. She was Batch 2003 and I'm Batch 2011 so its a big gap actually. (i never asked for her age! thats a ridiculous question!) She mentioned that her sibling also taking up the same course as mine and he/she will graduate this year that's why she asked me for the practicum's tuition fee. She is applying for a wine stewardess position and i got the chance to know her past employers. And I was so amazed that she worked in Europe based cruise ship (i really envy her.) for 3 times and she had done 1 world tour (envious to death!). I mentioned that I was planning to apply for a cruise job position soon but then it looks like I need more experience though. But I'm still thinking about it if i will pursue it now or maybe next year. So enough of our chit chatting. Exam begins...

4 examinations, 1 is logic.. (easy as 1, 2, 3), 2 is planning.. (the hardest!), 3 is all about your interest, 4 is essay.. and then interview. (usually interview comes first, i thought after 4 exams there's no more interview, again, i was wrong! HAHAHA.)

So let's jump with the interview! Waited for 30-40 mins? before my turn! I got a lot of patience so that's fine, besides I'm used to staying in one place doing nothing. (actually, i'm rehearsing! HAHAHA.) So everything looks fine, two persons interviewed me. My guess is that the other one is actually looking at my resume that maybe, just maybe she can offer me another position. (how did i know!? of course, by observation! HAHAHA.) The second to the last question she asked me is that if i am willing to accept other position other from Management Trainee, and I said yes provided that it is still related to Food and Beverage. (ahh yeah..) The last question was if i have done sales and marketing in the past, and I said "just a brief one". So she told me that she was not the one assigned for the MT position so she asked me to wait for the person who is in charge. (makes me think that she might be involve in recruiting sales and marketing professionals.) So the lady came in, and tell me about the job i am applying for, soon i found out that it is a retail outlet much like a department store selling different stuffs. (my disappointment!) and the job is actually in Laguna. (another major disappointment, coz i prefer metro based jobs.) I directly said my disagreement over the location of the job. Though she try to persuade me but really i dont want to work there. So she asked me whether to continue my application or not, well i didnt said no, yet, i want to check the company first and let's see if im goin to pass the company's interview and exams, then i'll make my decision. But she will still refer me to her other handled companies if i choose to discontinue pursuing that company.

So by Monday i am going to the company's address.

That will be my story no. 2!

I still got a lot of pending applications anyway! HAHAHA.
